Again, she doesn't seem to know what she's doing, who she should be attracted to, or what direction her life should take. The writing is good, it's the characters that I'm just not fond of, sad to say. The plot, however, does thicken in this second book, and I find myself curious as to how things will progress.The reader does find out some significant background information on the main characters in this installment. But for some reason, the storyline seems a little choppy to me, which slowed up both my reading speed and my enjoyment. But it still wasn't a bad read, and at least this second book didn't repeat the cliffhanger ending in the first book. This ending just gives a little teaser to lead to Book 3. I'm not sure if I'm interested enough to continue, though, since I'm not that fond of the main characters.

I just fell upon this series. So glad that I did. From the very first book, I was hooked. Now all I can do is wait for the final book of a very exciting series to come out. It definitely keeps you anticipating what will happen next. Who's telling the truth and who is not. Eve is caught between two extremely handsom vampires and the end of the world as we know it. Who is going to win and who is going to die -- Michel or Julian (or is this all a hoax). I recommend this book to everyone interested in a love story, drama, and happy ever after (hopefully). Spring 2015 - can't wait!
As soon as I finished Dominion, I immediately purchased and started reading Ascension. I had to know what happened to Eve, Michel and Julien! I thought it was a great follow-up to the first book. After reading Dominion, I sided with Michel but in Ascension, the reader gets to know Julien much better and now I'm no longer sure which twin I like better. Each one has their good and not so good traits; both are definitely intense and driven. And Eve is getting to know herself better than she did before meeting the twins. She continues to evolve as she learns more about the world of vampires -- the ones who want to protect her, the ones who want to use her, and the ones who are fighting for Dominion.
Ascension has many twists, unexpected turns and yet another cliffhanger. So glad the series will continue. I'm really looking forward to book 3 and hopefully more!!!
The formatting problems have been cleared up and the writing has somewhat improved from book one. We see more of Julien in this book as Michal has gone away and left Eve in Julien's care. The most interesting think about the series so far is the author's take on vampires - they eat, drink and smoke pot. There is also a vampire hierarchy and away for vampire's to ascend and become more powerful. The plot - vampires what to rule over humans - moves very slowly. Everything is on a need to know basis with Julien and Michal and apparently neither the heroine nor the reader needs to know. I especially did not appreciate the amnesia gambit used on Eve.
I will probably move on to book three as I downloaded it for free and I do find the characters interesting enough to see what happens next.
Eve is a strong, principled woman, one who does not make hasty decisions or change her mind easily. Michel and Julian are masters at the game of manipulation; after all they themselves were victims of it. But the grand master of all deception, manipulation, and secrecy is Soren, and so here is our palette of main characters.
Starting where the first book left off we are ushered into a small emotional roller coaster car that enters the tracks at high speed, twisting and turning - sometimes making you feel like your upside down. I've only had one other book in my reading history that has pulled so many emotions from me, has been so thought provoking, that has made me feel the love between characters so strongly even though it's not a happy loving situation - a book that has made me think what would I actually do, am I making the right decisions, can this work out any other way.
I love that S.E. Lind is taking her time, developing the characters, giving us a plot worthy of our time and emotions, not scrimping or cheating us on anything just to get to the end of the story. In one book you can have a favorite brother and then hate him 5 pages later. Learning more about Eve's back story, the abuse, the time spent to hone her artistic crafts, feeling the love she has for both brothers, knowing how conflicted she is in her choice of one brother over the other, and her hate for Soren you feel every decision she makes. This is complex, dirty love story, I'm not sure if the right or wrong choices are being made. I do know that Michel loves Eve and will do anything within his powers to keep her safe, but his choices don't seem the best for Eve at times.
I found myself not wanting Eve to make some of the decision she made, I didn't want her to give up her ideals and convictions, I liked that she was a strong women in her own right. The twins have harped on her to submit for her own good, but have her decisions brought her to submission? The twins want total life submission, but Eve`s ideals and convictions won't allow her to relinquish her choices to others, and so lies one of the big dilemmas our characters have to face.
I'm not a professional book reviewer, and I'm glad I'm not - I have so much emotion tied up in this story, and I can't wait to continue this journey. I can't decide who's right and whose wrong, who's good or bad. I feel the love between Eve and Michel, but I am saddened by her dependence on him, and I hope that her strength will be able to emerge once again, and though she will never be Michel's equal, I hope that she can hold her own in the war that has began.
I give thanks to S.E. Lund for crafting such a great story and allowing me to take this journey, to feel even though I may not always enjoy it.
This story really felt disconnected for me - writing and flow were fine - but for some reason nothing that happened pulled me in.
Eve came across as a bit of immature brat - really could t find a way to like her character.
Julien was harsh and selfish - and seemed to want to own Eve and never claimed to have any feeling for her.
Michel - seemed to have his own agenda and his feelings for Eve never seemed real - came across as a mediocre actor in a bad play.
Overall, just don’t think this series is for me. I honestly couldn’t wait to be finished with it. Again, just my opinion but I won’t be continuing this series.
